Disclosure: While I am obviously a fantasy football expert and my genius knows no bounds I cannot see the future. So this ranking is strictly on how rosters are presently constructed, I will not attempt to predict how free agency or the draft will go (though # of 2020 1st round picks will factor at least a little into the ranking). This is mostly an exercise of which teams need to do A LOT of work (and who has the firepower to do a lot) and which only need to do a little.
New York Jets
Notable Players: Derek Carr, Dalvin Cook, Chris Carson, Jarvis Landry, Chandler Jones, Blake Martinez, John Johnson
Biggest Holes: WR2/3, DE, DT
2020 Cap Remaining: 8.7 million
2020 1sts: None
Ranking the Jets here at #1 is more of an honorary spot placement as I am not sure that this is the best roster out there right now and with very little cap room and no 1sts to work with it might be hard to fill these holes and there are some big ones. There are a few TEs that could break out in a big way but haven’t really done that yet. Average QB, Good RBs, and a really good LB group highlight this roster and make a great core.
Jacksonville Jaguars
Notable Players: Gardner Minshew, Todd Gurley, Melvin Gordon, Emmanuel Sanders, Alshon Jeffrey, Kenny Golladay, Travis Kelce, Deforest Buckner, Jamie Collins
Biggest Holes: LB3, RB3
2020 Cap Remaining: 9 million
2020 1sts: None
Imagine this… it’s the 2nd round of the playoffs, you are winning your matchup, the Broncos recover a fumble and….the ball gets handed to freakin Kareem Jackson! So he gets points for that even though he did nothing. That’s okay, your team is down now but Alshon Jeffrey still has to play and there’s no way he scores not even 1 point right? WRONG! You lose in the 2nd round of the playoffs for the 2nd year in a row in a league that you pour your heart and soul into… no, this isn’t a nightmare. This is my reality. I wake up at night in a cold sweat thinking about this matchup at least once a week. Don’t worry I will be back and this year I am taking it all.
Buffalo Bills
Notable Players: Teddy B., Kerryon Johnson, Miles Sanders, Devin Singletary, Julio Jones, Michael Gallup, Hayden Hurst, Harrison Smith
Biggest Holes: LB, WR3
2020 Cap Remaining: 14 million
2020 1sts: 1.26
This roster is looking great especially on offense now that Teddy B has a starting job and the sophomore RBs looked great as rookies and that should continue. The tandem of Jones and Gallup at WR is great and Hayden Hurst also got traded into a great situation. Overall everything is looking up for this team, I would trade that first round pick and focus on a stud LB and getting a WR3. This team should definitely be competitive this year.
New Orleans Saints
Notable Players: Matt Ryan, Leveon Bell, Amari Cooper, Robby Anderson, Chris Godwin, Terry Mclaurin, George Kittle, Cameron Jordan, Eric Kendricks
Biggest Holes: RB2, K, DT
2020 Cap Remaining: 25 million
2020 1sts: 1.24
This team is really ready to compete with another RB addition and filling up those K and DT spots which I am sure will be done in FA or through the draft. This WR group is SCARY and is probably the best group in the league.
Pittsburgh Steelers
Notable Players: Aaron Rodgers, Rashaad Penny, Nyheim Hines, Adam Thielen, Christian Kirk, DJ Chark, Zach Ertz, Fred Warner, Jerome Baker
Biggest Holes: RB
2020 Cap Remaining: 11 million
2020 1sts: 1.31
I think the RBs you have here can be good and have some upside but if you pool some of your resources and get a stud RB then this roster will really go to the next level. It is already really complete and could go all the way this year.
Baltimore Ravens
Notable Players: Lamar Jackson, Mark Ingram, Marvin Jones, Robert Woods, Hunter Henry, JJ Watt, Chris Jones, Leighton Vander Esch
Biggest Holes: RB2, WR3, LB2/3
2020 Cap Remaining: 40 million
2020 1sts: None
This core is great and I can see no reason why with 40 million to spend that these holes can’t be filled. Might have to trade for an RB2/3 but WR3 and LB2/3 should be able to be filled in free agency. This team should be competitive this year for sure.
New England Patriots
Notable Players: Drew Brees, Alvin Kamara, Mike Evans, Sterling Shepard, Corey Davis, Dallas Goedert, Arik Armstead, Sam Hubbard, Jaylon Smith, Landon Collins
Biggest Holes: RB2, LB3, over the cap
2020 Cap Remaining: -3 million
2020 1sts: None
This team is pretty much ready to compete as is and has studs in a lot of places. Just needs to get under the cap and try to add another RB or 2 with a high upside.
Chicago Bears
Notable Players: Sam Darnold, Leonard Fournette, Aaron Jones, Stefon Diggs, N’Keal Harry, Noah Fant, Darius Leonard
Biggest Holes: K, DT, S, WR3
2020 Cap Remaining: 34 million
2020 1sts: 1.07
Great offensive core, the defense could use some work but at least there is a stud at LB in Darius Leonard. With 34 million in cap and a top 10 pick this year I see no reason why this roster can’t fill out and be competitive this year.
Philadelphia Eagles
Notable Players: Ryan Tannehill, Kenyan Drake, CMC, Ronald Jones, Cooper Kupp, TJ Watt
Biggest Holes: WR2/3, TE, K
2020 Cap Remaining: 45 million
2020 1sts: None
This roster will definitely compete to go all the way this year. I would focus on getting some more WRs in free agency and a consistent TE. With that much cap you should be able to do something great!
Los Angeles Rams
Notable Players: Baker Mayfield, David Johnson, Phillip Lindsay, Malcolm Brown, Will Fuller, JuJu, Jared Cook, Deion Jones, Roquan Smith
Biggest Holes: WR3, RB, LB3
2020 Cap Remaining: 31 million
2020 1sts: 1.29
This roster definitely has the makings to be competitive this year though the biggest question marks are at RB. Will DJ have a comeback in Houston? Will Malcolm Brown take more of the workload? What happens to Phillip Lindsay with Melvin Gordon in town. Overall this team is well rounded and if those RBs produce at all then watch out.
Las Vegas Raiders
Notable Players: Kirk Cousins, Saquon, OBJ, Courtland Sutton, Anthony Miller, Darren Waller, Von Miller, Tremaine Edmunds
Biggest Holes: RB2, S2
2020 Cap Remaining: 3 million
2020 1sts: None
This roster is pretty good and definitely will be competitive this year but I am not sure it has enough to go the distance and has extremely little wiggle room.
Minnesota Vikings
Notable Players: Nick Chubb, James Conner, TY Hilton, Josh Reynolds, Austin Hooper, Aaron Donald, Danielle Hunter, Cory Littleton
Biggest Holes: QB, DE2, LB3
2020 Cap Remaining: 37 million
2020 1sts: None
I probably have this team too low right now as everyone in the league knows that the Vikings are an A+ organization but without a QB it's hard to put this team any higher as it is constructed now. I fully expect the Vikings to be in contention this year
Cincinnati Bengals
Notable Players: Russell Wilson, Sony Michel, Marlon Mack, Deebo Samuel, Bobby Wagner
Biggest Holes: WR3, TE, LB3
2020 Cap Remaining: 22 million
2020 1sts: 1.19
Great foundation here at QB, RB, and WR. Getting some extra WR help and a stud TE would go a long way here and getting some consistent LBs to go behind BWagz. I like the way the roster looks so far and it should only get better through the draft and FA.
Dallas Cowboys
Notable Players: Deshaun Watson, Devante Parker, Tyreek Hill, Mecole Hardman, Jarrad Davis
Biggest Holes: RB, TE, LB3
2020 Cap Remaining: 23 million
2020 1sts: 1.12, 1.25
This roster is lookin pretty good especially at QB and WR. Definitely need to focus on RB and getting a TE who can put up some consistent points. With care and good drafting and if this team can get some RBs it has the skeleton to be competitive this year.
Kansas City Chiefs
Notable Players: Jimmy G, Tevin Coleman, David Montgomery, Michael Thomas, Tyrel Williams, Za’darius Smith, Joey Bosa
Biggest Holes: TE, RB3, LB2/3
2020 Cap Remaining: 8 million
2020 1sts: None
This team is pretty nice but doesn't have the cap or draft capital right now to overcome its deficiencies. That being said this team could maybe be competitive this year if things go their way but there's not a whole lot of room to make changes and this RB group does not exactly incite confidence.
Tennessee Titans
Notable Players: Kyler Murray, DHOP, John Ross, Marquise Brown, Mike Hughes
Biggest Holes: RB, TE, LB, S
2020 Cap Remaining: 68 million
2020 1sts: 1.01, 1.04, 1.05, 1.06, 1.27
This team has the makings of a great team especially on offense. Love the QB and WR group but there are no RBs yet, no TE, and really no IDP group at all. That can all be fixed in the draft and Free Agency with how much cap and draft capital this team has. I am pretty sure this will be the team that rises the most in the post-draft/FA rankings.
Washington Redskins
Notable Players: Patrick Mahomes, Davante Adams, Calvin Ridley, Curtis Samuel, Mark Andrews, Terrell Edmunds
Biggest Holes: RB, K, DE, LB
2020 Cap Remaining: 60 million
2020 1sts: 1.03, 1.15
This team really has some studs and could definitely fix its problems through the draft and free agency. Should be a very good offseason for a team with a ton of cap and some good draft picks.
Arizona Cardinals
Notable Players: Dwayne Haskins, Austin Ekeler, Keenan Allen, TJ Hockensen, Kwon Alexander
Biggest Holes: RB2, WR3, LB3
2020 Cap Remaining: 18 million
2020 1sts: 1.16, 1.20
There’s a lot of potential with this roster, Ekeler is obviously going to be a fantasy football stud for the next few years and I think Hock takes the leap this year. Not sure how to feel about Haskins but if he lives up to his potential with a few FA signings and hitting on those draft picks this roster could definitely make the playoffs.
Cleveland Browns
Notable Players: Josh Allen, Justice Hill, Jonnu Smith, Jadaveon Clowney
Biggest Holes: RB, WR, DT, LB,
2020 Cap Remaining: 39 million
2020 1sts: 1.10, 1.11, 1.28
Josh Allen is a great centerpiece for this league and there are some nice pieces here but even with the large amount of cap available and several 2020 1sts I still see this roster as at least another year or two away but definitely headed in the right direction.
Green Bay Packers
Notable Players: Trubisky, Drew Lock, Josh Jacobs, Darrell Henderson, Jace Sternberger, Rashan Gary
Biggest Holes: WR, DT, LB, CB
2020 Cap Remaining: 71 million
2020 1sts: 1.02
I really like the direction this team is going and there is a lot of young talent on here with a lot of potential. One of these QBs I think will work out and it probably won’t be Trubisky but I guess ya never know! With the 2nd overall pick and a ton of cap this team could choose to compete this year or continue the rebuild, personally I would continue it for one more year.
San Francisco 49ers
Notable Players: Darius Slayton, Preston Williams, Evan Engram, Nick Bosa, Josh Allen, Preston Smith
Biggest Holes: QB, RB
2020 Cap Remaining: 29 million
2020 1sts: 1.14, 1.23
The IDP group here is really good and this team is ready to take the leap as long as it can get a good QB and some RBs. There's really only 2 positions of need but they are maybe the 2 most important.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Notable Players: Derrick Henry, James White, Parris Campbell, Diontae Johnson, Devin Bush, Jonathan Abram, Thomas Davis
Biggest Holes: QB, RB2, WR, TE, DE
2020 Cap Remaining: 45 million
2020 1sts: 1.18
This team has some really good pieces in Derrick Henry and some WRs that could turn into something but aren't really anything yet. Good foundation for the IDP group. This team is probably still a year away.
Carolina Panthers
Notable Players: Carson Wentz, Joe Mixon
Biggest Holes: RB2, WR, S, LB
2020 Cap Remaining: 30 million
2020 1sts: None
Wentz and Mixon make a great foundation and the roster is definitely filled out but mostly with secondary pieces and this team definitely needs some more studs at the other positions. With no 1sts this year and not a ton of cap I am not sure I see this roster being able to compete this year.
Denver Broncos
Notable Players: Dak Prescott, DK Metcalf
Biggest Holes: RB, WR, TE, K, DE
2020 Cap Remaining: 28 million
2020 1sts: None
Not having any 1sts this year hurts. Not having a lot of cap to work with either I would say the rebuild will continue but I do like Dak and DK a lot.
Detroit Lions
Notable Players: Zeke, DJ Moore, Kareem Hunt, Eric Ebron, Melvin Ingram
Biggest Holes: QB, WR, K, LB
2020 Cap Remaining: 33 million
2020 1sts: None
You have some nice pieces here and really the biggest need is at QB with Andrew Luck obviously not being in the picture anymore (you can drop him for sure). The combo of Zeke, Moore, and Hunt are a great foundation but this team is still more than a year away.
Indianapolis Colts
Notable Players: Cam Newton….?, Brandin Cooks, Mike Williams, David Njoku, Joe Schobert, Shaq Barrett
Biggest Holes: QB, RB
2020 Cap Remaining: 17 million
2020 1sts: None
Not sure what to think of Cam but it seems that every day that passes it becomes more unlikely that he will end up as a week 1 starter. The IDP for this roster looks pretty good but RB is a really big issue and will need to be addressed for this team to be competitive. Although the Colts could literally keep this roster and still somehow beat me this year cuz it happened twice last year (thanks….)
Los Angeles Chargers
Notable Players: Jared Goff, Tyler Boyd, Myles Garrett, Devin White
Biggest Holes: RB, WR, K, DE, LB, S
2020 Cap Remaining: 19 million
2020 1sts: None
This team has a good skeleton but isn’t ready to compete this year and maybe not even next year. Keep rebuilding and think about selling your good players that are getting older.
Atlanta Falcons
Notable Players: Jarret Stidham…?, Hunter Renfrow, Lavonte David, Montez Sweat
Biggest Holes: QB, RB, WR, TE, DE
2020 Cap Remaining: 31 million
2020 1sts: 1.08, 1.22, 1.30
Not sure what some of the above players will become, Stidham probably is not the next Brady and might not even be the starter this year. Continue to build the roster and maybe keep up the rebuild for another year as I am not sure this team will be ready to compete this year.
Houston Texans
Notable Players: AJ Brown
Biggest Holes: Everywhere
2020 Cap Remaining: 62 million
2020 1sts: 1.13
This roster pretty much begins and ends with AJ Brown. This team is at least two years away.
Seattle Seahawks
Notable Players: ummm none
Biggest Holes: Everywhere
2020 Cap Remaining: 77 million
2020 1sts: 1.09, 1.17, 1.21, 1.32
This team is in full rebuild and is at least 2 years away but is headed in the right direction
Miami Dolphins
Notable Players: LB group, CB group, Derwin James
Biggest Holes: QB, RB, WR, TE, DT, DE
2020 Cap Remaining: 17 million
2020 1sts: None
The positions of LB, CB, and S are pretty much set and have some studs in each group. That being said there isn’t a single offensive group that is good and with so little cap and no firsts that isn't going to change this year.
New York Giants
Notable Players: Matt Stafford, CB group, S group
Biggest Holes: RB, WR, TE, DE, LB
2020 Cap Remaining: 8 million
2020 1sts: None
This team is not ready to compete and definitely will not be competing this year with only 8 million in cap to work with and no 2020 1sts.
New York Jets
Notable Players: Derek Carr, Dalvin Cook, Chris Carson, Jarvis Landry, Chandler Jones, Blake Martinez, John Johnson
Biggest Holes: WR2/3, DE, DT
2020 Cap Remaining: 8.7 million
2020 1sts: None

This team has a good skeleton but isn’t ready to compete this year and maybe not even next year. Keep rebuilding and think about selling your good players that are getting older.
Atlanta Falcons
Notable Players: Jarret Stidham…?, Hunter Renfrow, Lavonte David, Montez Sweat
Biggest Holes: QB, RB, WR, TE, DE
2020 Cap Remaining: 31 million
2020 1sts: 1.08, 1.22, 1.30
Not sure what some of the above players will become, Stidham probably is not the next Brady and might not even be the starter this year. Continue to build the roster and maybe keep up the rebuild for another year as I am not sure this team will be ready to compete this year.
Houston Texans
Notable Players: AJ Brown
Biggest Holes: Everywhere
2020 Cap Remaining: 62 million
2020 1sts: 1.13
This roster pretty much begins and ends with AJ Brown. This team is at least two years away.
Seattle Seahawks
Notable Players: ummm none
Biggest Holes: Everywhere
2020 Cap Remaining: 77 million
2020 1sts: 1.09, 1.17, 1.21, 1.32
This team is in full rebuild and is at least 2 years away but is headed in the right direction
Miami Dolphins
Notable Players: LB group, CB group, Derwin James
Biggest Holes: QB, RB, WR, TE, DT, DE
2020 Cap Remaining: 17 million
2020 1sts: None
The positions of LB, CB, and S are pretty much set and have some studs in each group. That being said there isn’t a single offensive group that is good and with so little cap and no firsts that isn't going to change this year.
New York Giants
Notable Players: Matt Stafford, CB group, S group
Biggest Holes: RB, WR, TE, DE, LB
2020 Cap Remaining: 8 million
2020 1sts: None
This team is not ready to compete and definitely will not be competing this year with only 8 million in cap to work with and no 2020 1sts.
