(#1) Buccaneers GM (Kevin) 🏆 vs (#1) Titans GM (Aaron)
Some may find it predictable or boring that both #1 seeds made it to the Super Bowl but oddly enough, this is the first year we've ever had that happen and these are just two of three #1 seeds to reach the FNFL Super Bowl. One of these two will also become the first #1 seed to win a Super Bowl (the past three winners have been a #2, #3, & #3 seed).
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (15-1)
Despite a preseason prediction of NFC South favorite and top three team in the power rankings, the Buccaneers completely shattered expectations and finished as one of the top regular season teams of all time, if not the best. They finished just behind the 2019 Vikings in about every statistical category, but unlike Minnesota they plan to finish off their season with a Super Bowl victory.
It's been an impressive year for Kevin, whose Bucs now sit fourth all time in total wins (40-17 record) and are one of just seven teams with three playoff appearances over the league's first four seasons. The Buccaneers have also had a winning record every single season, just one of four franchises to accomplish this. After first round exits in each of the last two postseasons, Tampa Bay is looking to top off an incredible season and keep the trophy in the NFC for back to back seasons.
Tennessee Titans (14-2)
On the other hand, Tennessee is making back to back Super Bowl appearances, becoming the first FNFL franchise to reach the championship multiple times. While not quite as dominant as the Bucs, Tennessee put out a top five regular season team for the second consecutive year. Their 193.9 ppg regular season average finished just below their average in 2020 (195.2 ppg).
It's been an equally impressive road for Aaron, who took over the team in late 2018. After a full rebuild in the 2019 season (0-15 record & 238.6 total regular season points, by far the worst all time), the Titans bounced back with a 26-3 record over the past two seasons, the best in the league during that period. They suffered a tough Super Bowl loss to Washington last season after a dominant first three rounds, but will look to avenge themselves and win a third championship for the AFC in four seasons.
Fantrax Matchup Preview: Buccaneers 177.88 - Titans 166.66
Prediction: Like last year, we have another very evenly matched Super Bowl. As mentioned in previous weeks, these two teams have been INCREDIBLY consistent. Tennessee has scored 170+ in all but one week this season and Tampa Bay has scored 180+ in all but two weeks this season (one of the two was last week w/o a QB). If the Buccaneers have one of Lamar Jackson / Tyler Huntley available, then it seems safe to say that these teams are working from those 170-180 point floors this week. Tampa Bay has a slight advantage if they can hit 180 as Tennessee has only reached that total once since week 7. Either way, expect a close matchup with both teams having a really solid chance of coming out as this season's champion.
To everyone else, thank you again for a really fun season. The past few weeks have been a little crazy with players landing on the Covid list but we were able to get through another very successful season and I hope everyone enjoyed their time in the league this year. I'll keep everyone updated on offseason dates / activities as we move through the next couple of months but in the meantime everyone stay safe & healthy and I hope to see you all back here again next season in 2022. It's the last write-up for 2021 so... Happy New Year everybody!
