Hey y’all! Super excited to be writing the power rankings this week. Not that anyone cares but I have been re-reading the Harry Potter books and hope that I can fit some analogies/jokes/quips from the books. No promises and no guarantees that anything I write will be funny. Again I am sure that nobody here cares about my life but these are my rankings and I’ll do whatever the hell I want.
MVP of Week 5: New England Patriots (216.5) Dude I thought for sure you would break the points record this week but....how disappointing
Sacko of Week 5: Buffalo Bills (36.7 points) Very impressive Buffalo! It takes a real 76ers move to unseat the Green Bay Packers as the lowest scorer of the week!
As a side note: I know that the top 4 in the power rankings hasn’t changed for a little bit but until one of those teams loses I just don’t see a reason to move any of them. Thanks for your time and consideration. (Just kidding, I don’t care what you think)
1. New England Patriots (+0)
A. Alex Smith is NOT a good Quarterback. But it doesnt on this team because of the other loaded pieces around like Kareem Hut, Joe Mixon, and Antonio Brown. Even with a lackluster performance from Alvin Kamara this team is still the highest scorer in the whole league and with 23 points on the bench from Hassan Reddick as well!
2. Baltimore Ravens (+0)
A. Little bit of a low scoring week for this team who is usually close to 200 points. It’s mostly from an offense that failed to perform. Royce Freeman and Corey Davis have decent floors each week but they will have games where you look at their stat line and go “meh”. Basically what happened is that all the players hit their floor but none of them really stood out. That is except Isaiah Crowell who was sittin bench side! 219 yards! Freakin insane. I still don’t know if I would start him next week. Most likely this will never happen again.
3. Denver Broncos (+0)
A. When will the Steelers get smart and trade Le’Veon Bell? They should have done so like .. yesterday. James Conner is a beast and with Ajayi gone for the year Denver should start praying to the fantasy gods that Conner stays relevant the rest of the year cuz Freeman isn’t looking too good either with his highest fantasy week in Week 1 with 6.5 points. Tyler Lockett is amazing too (THANKS)! If there is a saving grace to this team it is the defense which is stout and should never disappoint.
4. Jacksonville Jaguars (+0)
A. I would like to say that my team is the Harry Potter of our league... Comin in as the underdog, becoming more powerful each week. And eventually I will vanquish He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named (Alex). The only weakness in my team right now is in my RB2 spot where I got a total of 0 points from Rashaad Penny. But according to Pete Carrol he’s “frustrated” and “will start performing to a first-round level”. Sure, Sure, I’ll believe it when I see it.
5. Detroit Lions (+1)
A. Both sides of the ball for this team is solid. I’m a huge Andrew Luck believer and stacking him with Eric Ebron who has become his favorite target is just brilliant. Hey uh Cowboys maybe you should give Zeke the ball huh?
6. Carolina Panthers (+1)
A. Had a hard time placing this team because obviously they were the highest scoring team in the NFC this week but man 21 points from Kenyan Drake ain’t gonna happen every week. He’s like the Neville Longbottom of fantasy. Most weeks he underperforms but once every couple of books he does something that makes you go “wow”. Thanks for Collins!
7. New York Giants (-2)
A. Dude, bad luck this week. If you would have played literally any other team in the NFC except for Carolina you would have won. That being said I am very impressed with your RB corp, especially James White who is a PPR monster. I would bet on Jordan Reed to improve as well, he’s just too talented not to.
8. New Orleans Saints (+0)
A. Still undefeated man congrats! Even with a pretty lackluster performance from most of your team. Especially Amari Cooper. Just think, if cooper stays with the Raiders for his whole career he’s looking at the next ten years with Jon “its hard to find a pass rusher” Gruden. I’d sell now.
9. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+4)
A. Solid week from pretty much every position on this team. Except at QB with Tannehill. Of course this is bound to happen every once in a while as he’s just an average QB. But I bet he bounces back next week while facing a non-Bellicheck defense. Calvin Ridley didn’t score a single touchdown?! What happened? That does not work.
10. Kansas City Chiefs (-1)
A. Dang dude I thought for sure you would have won this week but Captain Kirk was just average and your RB2 spot is just as bad as mine. Of course I have a better overall team than you but you get the point. Might want to find another RB and maybe pray that Sutton and Stills get better QB play. Although I’m not too hopeful to be honest.
11. Miami Dolphins (-1)
A. I know you’re super down that you lost this week but it was a bad week for Newton and Jordan Howard is on bye. I wouldn’t be too worried about what happened this week just move on and I’m sure you’ll do better next week.
12. Dallas Cowboys (-1)
A. Ouch dude that RB group was brutal this week. But that’s what will happen with AD and Riddick. Seein a lot of zeros on the IDP side as well. Switch those guys out if you can and next week maybe youll get a win! Gotta keep up to compete for first place in your division.
13. Houston Texans (-1)
A. Hey that really sucks that you’re in the same division as JAX, that owner must be brilliant! Obviously I have no idea who that is. This RB group still makes me throw up in my mouth a little when I see it. This team goes as Keenan and AJ green go. Not sure Graham Gano is gonna give you 20 points every week but that FG he made at the end was amazing! Just don’t change your lineup AT ALL next week and I’m sure you’ll be fine.
14. Los Angeles Rams (+2)
A. So Close! Only 6 points away! Too bad you had to start two players on their Bye weeks or this game would have been in the bag. That being said even in a loss I’m still impressed with this team. OBJ is obviously a superstar and Wendell Smallwood should continue to see a similar work load as Ajayi is now done for the season.
15. Indianapolis Colts (+2)
A. Dang dude nice win! Way to celebrate Drew Brees breaking the passing record by completing the upset. A lot of these players have a low floor but high ceiling such as Will Fuller, John Brown, and Marvin Jones. This team could beat most teams on any given week but could also probably lose any given week.
16. Pittsburgh Steelers (-2)
A. Mariota looked ROUGH this week and it obviously showed in fantasy points but I expect him to bounce back and maybe even surprise us just like when Harry Potter’s name popped out of the Goblet of Fire. The RB group is really solid and I love Thielen but I think that Paul Richardson is hampered by his QB. Also we dont know how long Justin Houston will be hampered.
17. New York Jets (-2)
A. Man if you would have told me how bad Dalvin Cook would be this year so far a couple months ago I might have laughed in your face! I like most people felt he was an RB1. Instead we have Chris Carson on this team who looks like the better RB in real life and in fantasy.
18. Chicago Bears (+0)
A. Mahomes is my favorite Qb right now. He’s so fun to watch! I’d have a hard time picking between watching my Hawks and watching the Chiefs. I bet Aaron Jones gets better. It was a down week for the Packers running game as they were down early.
19. Cleveland Browns (+0)
A. Dude nice win against the Bills! Man that one was close! What a high scoring affair..really. Anyway, might want to figure out a better QB situation cuz if you can’t its really a lost cause for this year. Cooks and Chubb wont put up 0.2 points between them again. Hopefully Cooks is okay, that hit looked nasty.
20. Seattle Seahawks (+0)
A. Big fat zero from both RBs sucks but luckily you played the Packers! Bortles is lookin like a weekly viable option for this year even if he doesn’t look as good in real life. I guess we will see if Corey Clement can get healthy and see an increased workload in Ajayi’s absence.
21. San Fransisco 49ers (+2)
A. Aaron Rodgers was the lone bright star on this roster for this week. Julio Jones seems to be underperforming a bit on weeks when he should be great. The Steelers defense looked terrible until the Falcons came to town. Look for a bounce back next week though!
22. Atlanta Falcons (+2)
A. Again, the RB group on this team is hard to look at. Vander Esch and Kendricks are both beasts. And Case Keenum’s fantasy points show better than how he actually performed in my opinion.
23. Minnesota Vikings (+2)
A. Ingram looked great in his first week back! Looks like he will pick up right where he left off last year being the efficient workhorse for the Saints and being all the better when defenses are scared of Kamara. Gordon and Sanu look like boom or bust players to me.
24. Arizona Cardinals (-2)
A. Josh Rosen needs room to grow but he will get better. It’s awesome that he has a WR in Kirk that he knows and trusts. Derrick Henry is the Fool’s Gold of the offseason. I thought he would be the workhorse in Tennessee and finally show how good he is. Guess I was wrong.
25. Cincinnati Bengals (+3)
A. Sony Michel looks much better than I think even the highest fantasy projections of him in the offseason. I personally never wanted to own a Patriots RB but we’ve got two viable Patriots running backs so far this year. Marcus Davenport is showing why the Saints traded up to get him and as long as Sean Lee is hampered by injuries (which could be forever) Jaylon Smith is a fantasy stud.
26. Los Angeles Chargers (+0)
A. Down week for Goff even though his team performed! He got them to the goal line a ton of times but it was Todd Gurley who would punch it in. I expect Goff’s fantasy numbers to be better. As for the rest of the offense on this team...I uh do not expect that. IDP group is set up nicely though! Especially for the future.
27. Philadelphia Eagles (+0)
A. Can’t believe Kyle Jusczcyk is still performing for fantasy. He’s the best fantasy FB I can remember. This team looks good for next year (maybe) but the IDP group needs some serious work.
28. Tennessee Titans (-7)
A. Just tons of zeros and empty slots. The QB situation is BAD. But this team is looking towards the future and for that they are doing a great job!
29. Washington Redskins (+0)
A. Love Sam Darnold. For this year and the future.
30. Oakland Raiders (+1)
A. Admirable effort this week! St. Brown surprised this week and Denzel Ward is already one of the best CBs in the league. In my opinion he pretty much single handedly won the game for the Browns. With the INT near the goal line and the blocked FG, I mean it was pretty amazing.
31. Buffalo Bills (-1)
A. Blah.
32. Green Bay Packers (+0)
A. Blah.
