After a hot start with last year's mock (4/4 on the first 4 picks), we did not predict any of the other 28 picks correctly. So naturally that means we have to run it back with a mock for 2024. Here's EXACTLY how the first round will play out this year...
1 Washington Commanders -- WR Marvin Harrison Jr
2 New England Patriots -- WR Malik Nabers
3 Chicago Bears -- QB Caleb Williams
4 Tampa Bay Buccaneers -- WR Rome Odunze
Assuming they plan to hold on to Herbert, the pick at 1.01 should be MHJ for the Commanders // the Patriots did not tank quite well enough to earn the top pick, but they should get the 2nd best WR off the board barring a Mahomes trade pre-draft // Chicago has plenty of holes to fill, but they can get their long term QB here with Caleb Williams // they got good value for their trade down from 1.01 and Tampa can still get one of the tier 1 WRs at 1.04
5 Dallas Cowboys -- QB Jayden Daniels
6 Miami Dolphins -- RB Jonathan Brooks
7 Seattle Seahawks -- WR Keon Coleman
8 Los Angeles Chargers -- QB Drake Maye
Seemingly headed for a rebuild, Dallas gets their QB to replace an expiring Deshaun Watson // maybe a bit of a reach compared to his ADP, but Miami badly needs a RB to fill out their offense // Seattle gets stuck in a tough spot also needing RB, and is not in a great spot to get one without Brooks falling -- perhaps a trade down spot // Chargers traded up with the intention of grabbing a QB and they'll have their choice of a couple of them at this spot
9 New York Jets -- RB Trey Benson
10 Jacksonville Jaguars -- TE Brock Bowers
11 Atlanta Falcons -- QB JJ McCarthy
12 Atlanta Falcons -- WR Brian Thomas
New York has options here now with a second pick later in the round, but RB appears to be the most glaring need on offense // like Seattle, the Jags miss out on grabbing one of the top RBs and settle for the top TE on the board instead // in the midst of a rebuild, Atlanta grabs a QB to replace Geno Smith and another WR to add to a solid young receiving core
13 Minnesota Vikings -- QB Bo Nix
14 Pittsburgh Steelers -- WR Xavier Worthy
15 Los Angeles Rams -- RB Blake Corum
16 Cleveland Browns -- WR Ladd McConkey
Minnesota doesn't need to grab Nix here with another pick coming up shortly and no teams in between needing a QB, but not worth risking a team trading up with multiple WR options available at this point in the draft // the Steelers add a WR to continue to add to a rebuilding offense // Rams go RB with receiver being a spot with plenty of depth on the roster / Cleveland looks to replace Cooper Kupp in a receiving room that is essentially just Stefon Diggs
17 Tampa Bay Buccaneers -- WR Adonai Mitchell
18 Minnesota Vikings -- WR Ricky Pearsall
19 New York Giants -- LB Edgerrin Cooper
20 New York Jets -- WR Xavier Legette
the Bucs RB depth looks better after the Henry signing, but still need options at WR // Minnesota's second pick of the round is a WR to pair with their new rookie QB // the Giants roster loaded with young offensive talent allows NY to take the first defensive player off the board, but still hold off on addressing the needs at DE // with a hefty contract at QB, the Jets add another cheap offensive weapon to pair with Trey Benson
21 Chicago Bears -- WR Ja'Lynn Polk
22 Minnesota Vikings -- WR Roman Wilson
23 Green Bay Packers -- QB Michael Penix
24 Arizona Cardinals -- RB MarShawn Lloyd
as mentioned, Chicago has plenty of needs, but can attempt to address another one on offense with a WR pick here // the Vikings attempt to rebuild their offense in one draft and take their 2nd WR of the round // with no long term QB option (sorry, Clayton Tune), Penix is finally off the board and pairs nicely with Minshew on a short term deal // a lot of expiring options on Arizona's offense, so a RB pick is a decent backup plan if their are unable to retain Warren and/or Mitchell
25 Minnesota Vikings -- RB Jaylen Wright
26 Green Bay Packers -- TE Ben Sinnott
27 Tennessee Titans -- WR Malachi Corley
28 Los Angeles Rams -- LB Junior Colson
final count on Vikings picks, 1 QB / 1 RB / 2 WR -- with plenty of later / future picks to address defensive needs // Packers double down on long term options at single starter positions, adding a replacement for an expiring Evan Engram // Titans make it back to back years with a first round WR, hoping for a similar outcome to what they got in Josh Downs // with few glaring needs, Rams grab a sliding Colson off the board with their second pick of the round
29 New York Giants -- DE Jared Verse
30 New Orleans Saints -- WR Jermaine Burton
31 Baltimore Ravens -- WR Troy Franklin
32 San Francisco 49ers -- DE Laiatu Latu
New York is able to address their needs at DE, grabbing the top one off the board, making 2 of the top 3 IDPs picks Giants // Saints replace Chris Godwin & Ravens replace Keenan Allen with cheaper WR options at the end of the round // 49ers are also able to replace a lost FA with Latu taking over for Nick Bosa
1 Washington Commanders -- WR Marvin Harrison Jr
2 New England Patriots -- WR Malik Nabers
3 Chicago Bears -- QB Caleb Williams
4 Tampa Bay Buccaneers -- WR Rome Odunze
