Arizona Cardinals
2018 Record: 4-8
2019 Pick: 1.12
Team Needs: QB (maybe), TE, RB
Cap 2019: $35 Million
If Josh Rosen ends up getting traded to the right team or we are all just being fooled with this Kyler Murray stuff (I think that’s a long shot) then maybe QB isn’t the biggest issue here but the likelihood of Rosen being an impact fantasy QB at all in 2019 even if he stays in Arizona is miniscule at best. Unless you want to wait another year to compete you might want to offload the risk of Rosen for a more sure thing especially with absolutely no starting QBs in free agency. You could make an argument that RB is the next position of need but I’m gonna go with TE since it is basically vacant at this point. Charles Clay will most likely not be relevant well.. for the rest of time but there are going to be some pretty good TE’s available in free agency and definitely in the rookie draft if Noah Fant goes where he is projected. The RB group is obviously lacking with Derrick Henry leading the way and nobody else there, the WR group has the same problem with Davante Adams being the only guy, but the RB position is more of a need because Adams is a much much better WR than Henry is an RB. That being said I do believe in Henry as someone who has RB1 potential this year. Nobody can deny his talent and everybody remembers his absolute soul crusher of a game last year. I would keep Henry as you won’t get value back for him in a trade and try to get an RB2 somewhere probably with your first round pick
EDIT: Even if the Rosen trade to the dolphins goes through he is not a very viable fantasy asset.
Atlanta Falcons
2018 Record: 6-6
2019 Picks: 1.17
Team Needs: RB, WR, TE
Cap 2019: $34 Million
This team as constructed right now is actually pretty good defensively, I’d say that Vander Esch is the star of this IDP group and will be for years to come. With that being said, the offense is a straight up mess. When Danny Amendola is probably the top scorer on your roster you definitely have a problem. I would be doing anything and everything I could to get a good RB,that is the only way you will be able to compete in this league. Then I would look to get better and hopefully younger in FA and the draft (I would use the 17th pick on a WR most likely), while there are quite a few WR on the market none of them are world beaters. Blake Jarwin is not the answer at TE either as he literally got replaced by someone coming out of retirement (Thank you Jerry Jones!)
Baltimore Ravens
2018 Record: 12-0 (lost to NE in 2nd Round)
2019 Picks: 1.27
Team Needs: RB, LB, DB
Cap 2019: $36 Million
I feel like there are going to be a lot of teams on this list that need running backs, great running backs are what consistently drive a great fantasy team to victory and they are definitely at a premium in this league. That being said you might not feel the urgency right now to go out and get a great RB, especially when they are so expensive, but I’m telling you if you want to win it all in this league you have to go get one. This team is running low on LB’s and both DB spots but that can easily be fixed through FA and maybe the draft. I wouldn’t go out and spend big bucks on IDP though unless you can get a better RB somehow (Lamar doesn’t count).
Buffalo Bills
2018 Record: 0-12
2019 Picks: 1.2, 1.31
Team Needs: QB, TE, LB
Cap 2019: $26 Million
Really there aren’t any needs on this team as far as roster construction goes, there are no holes and each position has depth. So I picked the position groups that I believe in the least starting with QB. I know you have a lot of cap but almost $27 Million of your cap is dedicated to that position with not a lot to show for it. Maybe you believe in Mariota and his potential but I personally do not. I would be looking to trade any or all of those assets for a better QB, doesnt even have to be a top tier guy. There are some tight ends on here with potential but none that I believe in and none that have had an impact so far, again you might disagree with me and that’s okay. LB group has some good pieces but again not really any world beaters in there. I’d be looking to take whichever QB I like the most with the 2nd overall pick and trying to get rid of the yucky QBs on the roster now then go out and make a splash in FA with all that cash! With $35 Million in cap right now if you were able to get rid of some of the higher paid QBs you could really do some damage.
Carolina Panthers
2018 Record: 3-9
2019 Picks: 1.8
Team Needs: RB, WR, S
Cap 2019: $11 Million
The RB group for this team is looking very sad and lonely with only Kyle Juszczyk under contract so far for next year. That’s the position group I would hit the hardest. WR is pretty sad as well though not quite as empty depending on your opinion of Nelson Agholor. But I feel like you can fix the WR group in FA whereas there is almost no chance of fixing the RBs that way. I’d probably be looking to draft an RB or use that pick to trade for one. Then there’s the issue of having only on Safety which is probably the easiest fix on this whole roster.
Chicago Bears
2018 Record: 8-4 (lost to NO in 2nd Round)
2019 Picks: 1.26
Team Needs: DT, S, WR
Cap 2019: $32 Million
I am so jealous of the QB on this team, Pat Mahomes is transcendent and will be for years to come. This guy is so special. Just think of Russell Wilson’s record setting contract and what Mahomes is gonna get in a few years. BACK UP THAT MONEY TRUCK. While I don’t really see Aaron Jones as anything above an RB2 I believe Jerrick McKinnon has a huge year provided he is healthy. I would say Safety is the biggest need on this roster because there isn’t really a stud guy you can count on to produce each week. There are plenty of safeties who can consistently produce at a high level so I’d shoot for one of those guys. I wouldn’t be surprised if tedric thompson is demoted to a rotational or backup role when the Seahawks add depth at Safety which is Pete Carrol’s favorite position to add to. Also I would definitely try to turn one or two of your other IDP players into a reliable DT, or pick up one in FA.
Cincinnati Bengals
2018 Record: 4-8
2019 Picks: 1.09
Team Needs: TE, WR, RB (also needs K)
Cap 2019: $52 Million
Russell Wilson comin through with that huge extension! Not only in real life but he’s gettin PAID in this league too. Obviously he’s a stud and the Bengals don’t have to even sweat the QB position. IDP looks pretty good and solid for this team and I would focus my offseason efforts elsewhere. Personally I would start at TE, I would think that this is where the 9th pick is gonna go with a lot of mock drafts having three tight ends going to pretty good spots in the first round. WR is a need here even with Doug Baldwin on the roster because even though he is really good he cant carry an entire WR group for a fantasy football team. I feel like most WRs are hit or miss in a rookie draft though (thinking of you laquon treadwell). An RB2 is needed for this team but I’d look to pick someone up with all that cap or through a trade where I’m not giving up any young assets. I like sony michel but he’s a mid-RB2 at best I think. That being said I’d look to draft a TE and try to shore up WR/RB in FA and if that doesn’t work then trade for them.
Cleveland Browns
2018 Record: 3-9
2019 Picks: 1.28
Team Needs: RB, TE, DT
Cap 2019: $30 Million
RB is for sure the biggest need on this team, WR is scarce sure and Gronk retiring doesnt help this roster at all but as was proven last year you cant win without a stud RB (or two). Rosters in this league literally live or die by the RB position. That being said I would use this pick and anything else I needed to to get a great RB. I would probably use either Jimmy G or Josh Allen to get that accomplished. Having a good QB is important but you have two of them and one is MUCH cheaper than the other so...
Should use FA to pick up a DT and TE (though I’m not sure what’s available cuz not everybody has their rosters set up in fantrax or I would have some suggestions for you).
Dallas Cowboys
2018 Record: 8-4
2019 Picks: 1.19
Team Needs: RB, DE, WR
Cap 2019: $32 Million
Same thing as I just said above applies to this roster, you cant win without a stud RB. Anybody wanna fight me on that they can but I’ll win that argument. If I were this owner I would consider trading Tyreek if you don’t want to take the risk and I think you could still get a pretty good haul for him. I know there’s not a ton of noise right now but lets remember how fast KC alum Kareem Hunt fell, just saying. Really love Hunter Henry at TE, lots of talent and a huge opportunity for him. This Safety group is legitimately stacked but the DE position is lacking. I would try to address RB with the picks and then pick up another DE and WR in free agency.
Denver Broncos
2018 Record: 4-8
2019 Picks: 1.11
Team Needs: WR, TE, DT
Cap 2019: $47 Million
I really think you dont have to worry about QB on this roster, I think Dak is a good to great fantasy option this year and the Cowboys offense will only imporove upon last year. While Ingram and Mack wont be world beaters at RB they will definitely put up enough points for you to win. In general when running backs have a great running quarterback their production tends to improve because it keeps defenses on their toes so I actually see an increase in fantasy points for mark ingram this year. Where this roster is really lacking is having someone consistently good at WR. While Doctson and Sanu are good flex options on most weeks they aren’t every week starters especially with Sanu being supplanted for targets by Calvin Ridley. I would use some of this cap to pick up a consistent DT and K and probably another WR. Then I would either go WR or TE with the 11th pick, whichever position has the better player at that point.
Detroit Lions
2018 Record: 9-3 (lost to NE in the Super Bowl)
2019 Picks: No 1st round pick
Team Needs: CB, DT, WR
Cap 2019: $6 Million
This team is really stacked with Andrew Luck and Zeke headlining the roster. Dion Lewis is a solid RB2 though you might want to get another RB somewhere for injuries/bye weeks or whatever happens. DJ Moore could really take a step up in his second year in Carolina, he definitely has the talent to do it but its really up to Cam Newton. Antonio Calaway looked better before OBJ came to Cleveland but he could be a solid WR3 and Sammy Watkins could really shine if Hill misses anytime at all. That being said since there is no first round pick on this team and only 6 million in cap I would go ahead and add another CB in FA so that you have at least two. I would also consider trying to see what you can get for Sammy Watkins since he is very injury prone and costing you 10 million this year. All in all this roster is looking really good and is definitely a contender.
Green Bay Packers
2018 Record: 0-12
2019 Picks: 1.01, 1.05, 1.18, 1.32
Team Needs: RB, WR, S
Cap 2019: $55 Million
Obviously this roster has a lot of holes but RB and WR are absolutely glaring. QB position is okay with Brady and trubisky though neither of them are really that great for fantasy. There are some RBs and WRs on this roster but they might as well not even be there because none of them are really going to do anything. I guess an argument could be made for Keenan Cole with the QB change to Nick Foles but I really only see his ceiling as a low-end WR2. Tons of cap to work with and 4 first round picks. I would focus on RB and WR in the draft unless a game changing LB or DT falls to you. Not sure if there is anybody in this draft class really worth the 1.01 but that’s your problem to figure out not mine, well at least until I make the mock draft for our league.
Houston Texans
2018 Record: 5-7
2019 Picks: 1.13
Team Needs: RB, S, LB
Cap 2019: $19 Million
There is some cap room here to go out and shore up that RB position, might not be able to get a stud since all those are locked up but getting another RB or two to pair with Chris Thompson that just have average consistency and production would go a long way. Some people are down on Big Ben but I’m not, I see him as a good to great fantasy QB until he shows me anything different. Love the WR group on this roster but the IDP could use a little work at S and LB especially. And that’s where I’d be going in the draft. Hopefully get a stud LB with the 13th pick and deal with the rest in FA.
Jacksonville Jaguars
2018 Record: 12-0 (lost to DEN in 2nd round)
2019 Picks: No 1st round picks
Team Needs: WR, CB
Cap 2019: $17 Million
Tough way to end what was other wise a really great season by going out in the 2nd round of the playoffs but dont worry I’m back for more this year! Coming for another division title and hopefully a super bowl though there are some really great teams in this league. I feel great about my RB position as well as my LBs, I feel like those are two super power positions on my roster. Where I really have a hole (if you could call it that) is at WR. Hopefully Kenny Golladay takes those smooth routes to a more productive fantasy year but I could really use another WR or 2 so I am hoping to pick those up in FA. I had a really hard time deciding whether to tag Tyler Lockett or not but that’s okay I’m sure he’ll be back on my roster very soon.
Indianapolis Colts
2018 Record: 7-5 (lost to NE in 1st round)
2019 Picks: No 1st round pick
Team Needs: RB, DE, WR
Cap 2019: $10 Million
Yikes Alex Collins isn’t looking like a very good prospect right now, too bad you already used an extension on him. There are 4 RBs on this roster but none of them are really startable except for maybe Gio when he’s actually healthy but still not a great option. The WR group has some good players but all of them have injury issues (looking at you will fuller). With no first rounder and only 10 million in cap I would be doing anything I could to get a better and younger RB including trading some of my better veteran players to contenders.
Kansas City Chiefs
2018 Record: 1-11
2019 Picks: 1.04
Team Needs: QB, RB, S
Cap 2019: $65 Million
Hard to pick which is a bigger need between QB and RB on this roster considering doesnt even have a QB on it. But the RB situation is pretty bad as well with the only two RBs being basically backups. Michael Thomas is a stud WR but definitely need another WR or 2. It’s not really apparent which is a bigger need on the IDP side between DE and S but if Bosa is healthy for 16 games he can make up for any other deficiencies at the position. Hard to say what you should do with the 4th pick but I would probably go QB or DE and then figure out RB and S in FA. You have enough cap to get any player you want that’s out there.
Los Angeles Chargers
2018 Record: 4-8
2019 Picks: 1.10
Team Needs: RB, WR, TE
Cap 2019: $36 Million
RB is definitely the biggest need on this team as is the same for a lot of the teams here. It’s really too bad that this draft class doesn’t have really any star RBs. I guess you could say Josh Jacobs is going to be a good starter in the NFL but the college productivity doesnt show that as he was splitting time at Alabama. Not that it will matter for this roster because I doubt he will be available at the 10th pick. Personally I would take the best WR on the board at 10 and then try to get a RB in FA along with a TE. Maybe pick up a RB in the second round. Really your IDP is killer and could compete with the IDP of pretty much any other roster but the offense is seriously lacking. Focus on that in the offseason in every way you can and you can be competitive this year.
Los Angeles Rams
2018 Record: 8-4
2019 Picks: No 1st Round Pick
Team Needs: RB, TE, K
Cap 2019: $38 Million
Man I am so jealous of Baker Mayfield. Not only is he a great fantasy player but he is super fun to watch. And in Cleveland of all places! We live in a great time. This roster is extremely competitive and could really push for a title this year with one more good RB, especially since we dont know if Phillip Lindsay will stay healthy for 16 games (which he didn’t do last year). WR is mostly set and the IDP is in really great shape especially at LB. There aere two interesting prospects at TE in Everett and Uzomah but not neither are very consistently good. So I would get into the bidding for any and all average to above average RBs and that is where I would put this money. If you can get a solid RB2 then you’ll be a team to watch out for this year.
Miami Dolphins
2018 Record: 6-6
2019 Picks: No 1st round pick
Team Needs: RB, DE, TE
Cap 2019: $28 Million
Running back, Running back, Running back. Again and again and it wont be the last time I say it in this article. There are really no viable options in my opinion at RB on this roster and WR isn’t much better though there could be an argument for Taylor Gabriel and josh Reynolds. I do absolutely love the LBs, CBs, and Safeties on this roster but you need to pick up two solid DEs in FA and definitely another TE. You might have to look deep for underrated players at those positions since you dont have a huge amount of cap to work with and will probably get out bid for any really great players. Maybe try to turn one or two of those CBs into a DE or average TE.
Minnesota Vikings
2018 Record: 9-3 (lost to NE in AFC Championship)
2019 Picks: No 1st round pick
Team Needs: LB, DT, WR
Cap 2019: $11 Million
Yikes man your RB position is super barren.... really wont be competitive this year at all. Actually this RB group is definitely top 3 in the league. Not quite as good as mine but ya know. Really the only holes on this roster are because of losing players to FA. You could definitely use a LB or two and after losing Aaron Donald you obviously need a consistent DT. I would turn one of your DEs into a DT and try to pick up a LB and WR in Free Agency.
New England Patriots
2018 Record: 11-1 (WON SUPERBOWL)
2019 Picks: No 1st round pick
Team Needs: QB, WR, DE
Cap 2019: $7 Million
QB is for sure by far the biggest need on this team. I know you won the super bowl without one but this is a different year and going the whole year without a starting QB I think will put you in a tough spot to repeat. You can and will be competitive without one but getting even a below average starter would go a long way. You do have two stud WRs but need at least one more to start each week and you could probably use a more consistently good DE than what you have right now. Seeing as you dont have a first round pick and very little cap you definitely need to clear Alex smith’s contract somehow to be even somewhat competitive in Free Agency.
New Orleans Saints
2018 Record: 10-2 (lost to DET in NFC Championship)
2019 Picks: 1.30
Team Needs: RB, LB, DE
Cap 2019: $39 Million
This Running Back group isn’t terrible but definitely needs some work. I think you could get a pretty good prospect in the first round with the 30th pick because although this rookie class doesnt really have a ton of top talent it is deep with average RB prospects and maybe you can hit on one. You do have quite a bit of cap and the rest of your offense is set. Spend that cap on one or two LBs and the best DE you can get. If you can shore up your IDP you have a really good shot at making it back to the NFC Championship.
New York Giants
2018 Record: 8-4 (lost to CHI in 1st round)
2019 Picks: 1.23
Team Needs: CB, TE, K
Cap 2019: $16 Million
You know you’re in pretty good shape when CB is your biggest need. I definitely wouldn’t spend you first round pick on one but you should be able to get relatively cheap and good ones in Free Agency pretty easily. I know you have Jordan Reed at TE but there’s just no way you can trust him to play 16 games and with the QB situation in Washington his production is in jeopardy even if he is healthy. I would probably spend that first rounder on one of the TEs. I think your RB and WR groups are definitely good enough to be competitive in this league and I see David Johnson really bouncing back as a premiere fantasy Running Back.
New York Jets
2018 Record: 6-6
2019 Picks: No 1st round pick
Team Needs: WR, RB, DT
Cap 2019: $36 Million
Depending if Oakland takes a QB at #4 you might actually need to be in the market for a new player at that position but I personally dont see that happening. I think Carr has a great year with AB on the team and should be really good for you. That being said your WR group isn’t bad by any means but could definitely use some reinforcements and I would try really hard to get some RB insurance for Cook and Carson. Not sure we can label Cook as “injury prone” yet but there is definitely risk as well as with Carson simply because of his running style which is basically “try to truck every defender possible”. Its really fun to watch but does cause injuries more often than not. I feel like this team is better than its 6-6 record last year and should definitely improve on that.
Oakland Raiders
2018 Record: 7-5 (lost to DEN in 1st round)
2019 Picks: No 1st round pick
Team Needs: RB, TE, WR
Cap 2019: $12 Million
Saquon Barkley is good, like really really good. But he cant carry a fantasy team far into the playoffs on his own, just like he cant carry the Daniel Jones led Giants all on his own. There are some good WRs on here that could take a step forward this season like Sutton and Anthony Miller and this team really needs them to be good. I like Kirk Cousins and think he will be good for fantasy but its not like he’s some kind of fantasy superstar. Overall the best part of this team is the IDP group that has some studs and should consistently produce. You should focus on getting an RB2 and a better TE but dont expect either to be great since you dont have much cap to work with. I would look at trading a CB or 2 or an LB to fill up some of the offensive holes.
Philadelphia Eagles
2018 Record: 9-3 (lost to SEA in 1st Round)
2019 Picks: No 1st round pick
Team Needs: TE, RB, QB
Cap 2019: $13 Million
Thank heavens you traded for Jameis Winston cuz Eli Manning is straight garbage and hopefully wont play all that much this year so the Daniel Jones experiment can begin. I dont love Jay Ajayi as an RB2 but he could turn into something in the right situation. I dont think I need to say anything about Run CMC cuz he is amazing. WR group is really good but the TEs could really use some work as I dont see any good consistent production there. I would try to leverage your many good IDP players for a TE and/or an actual RB2.
Pittsburgh Steelers
2018 Record: 7-5
2019 Picks: No 1st round pick
Team Needs: RB, TE, LB
Cap 2019: $28 Million
Even being the huge homer that I am I think that Rashaad Penny’s ceiling this year is as a mid-RB2, same for Nyheim Hines as they both kind of play the same roles in their respective offenses. I think you are set at QB and WR but I’m not sure how I feel about Mark Andrews, he does have potential but hasn’t shown a ton yet. I would say your biggest need is getting a difference maker RB and/or TE. With no draft pick that could be tough to do but if you really want to take the next step and not only make but go far in the playoffs next year you have to get better at those two positions.
San Fransisco 49ers
2018 Record: 3-9
2019 Picks: 1.20, 1.21
Team Needs: QB, RB, WR
Cap 2019: $39 Million
Not sure if Kyler Murray or Haskins is going to last til pick 20 in our rookie draft. Maybe, maybe not. I would package picks to move up for one of them for sure. There are at least two teams with higher picks than yours that also need QBs. If you dont want to go that route there might be a QB in FA that you can pick up and you have the cap room to do it and then draft the best available RB and WR. Those are the two things I would think about though is either trading up to get the QB of the future or using each pick on a RB and WR.
Seattle Seahawks
2018 Record: 8-4 (lost to DET in 2nd round)
2019 PIcks: 1.16, 1.25
Team Needs: RB, DE, LB
Cap 2019: $12 Million
First thing that has to be done is shedding Blake Bortles’ humongous contract that is weighing you down. Nick Foles is a great option for this year but if Kyler or Haskins ends up falling in the draft you might want to look at one of those two. If Josh Jacobs isn’t there to pair with Cohen then I would get another WR for an already stacked WR group that has JuJu, mike Williams, Dante Pettis, and Dede Westbrook. All young and on cheap contracts and locked up for at least the next 3 years. There are way too many DTs on this roster. I would say pick one or maybe even two to keep and then try to get some DEs. That’s where I would focus in Free Agency. Try to get at least one DE and/or LB with one of your first round picks and then get the other with what little cap you have. Although that will go up when you get rid of Bortles.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
2018 Record: 7-5
2019 Picks: 1.14
Team Needs: QB, RB, CB
Cap 2019: $15 Million
With no QB on the roster that is definitely the biggest need that needs to be filled in the draft. You have some real difference makers on this roster but to take that next step you need some consistency at RB2 and WR3. Leveon Bell and OBJ can only do so much and getting an RB and WR to help them out would really go a long way. With only one CB on the roster you definitely need to get one or two but that should be easy and cheap in Free Agency. QB should be the main focus of concern here.
Tennessee Titans
2018 Record: 2-10
2019 Picks: 1.03, 1.06, 1.15, 1.22, 1.29
Team Needs: QB, RB, TE
Cap 2019: $74 Million
Holy crap I am not even reallly sure where to start here. QB is the biggest need in my opinion because you can get a good and cheap QB for years to come that you can build around. Then I would look at RB and then at TE. Of course if a WR becomes available that you cant pass up then I would take the best player available although I think you could get a really good WR or two in FA with the crap load of cap you have. You could literally turn this roster into a contender this offseason. With so many moving pieces in FA its hard to know where exactly you’re gonna need to pinpoint your first two picks. How you do the draft will determine the direction of this team for at least the next three years, for good or for bad. As we see in the NFL with teams that have multiple first round picks, if they hit on those picks it turns the franchise around quickly and if they dont then they are a dumpster fire for years to come.
Washington Redskins
2018 Record: 1-11
2019 Picks: 1.07, 1.24
Team Needs: WR, LB, DE
Cap 2019: $49 Million
This team has a great nucleus in my opinion with Sam Darnold and Leonard Fournette. I know Fournette has his issues but when he is healthy he is extremely productive and I expect that to be the case this year. I expect Sam Darnold to have a great year as well under the new coaching staff and offensive scheme (if he can get over the Adam Gase crazy eyes). Not a whole lot going on with WR or the IDP either. I wouldn’t target any specific players in the draft, I would just see who falls to you and take the best player available no matter the position, same with the 24th pick. You have a need at pretty much every position but I would prioritize WR, LB, and DE over the others at least in the draft.
